Materials required to change the oil in a Kia Cerato automatic transmission:
* New automatic transmission oil that meets the manufacturer’s recommendations (the volume depends on the Cerato model and transmission type)
* New oil filter
* Pallet washer
* Pan gasket
* Container for draining old oil
* Funnel
* Tool set (wrenches, ratchet, screwdriver)
The procedure for changing the oil in a Kia Cerato automatic transmission:
1. Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature. This will help thin the oil and make it easier to drain.
2. Raise the car on a lift or place it on stands. Make sure the vehicle is securely secured.
3. Locate the drain plug on the transmission oil pan. Clean the area around the plug with a brush and solvent.
4. Place a container under the drain plug and unscrew it. Carefully drain the old oil into a container.
5. Replace the oil filter. It is usually located in the transmission pan. Unscrew the bolts holding the filter and remove the old filter. Lubricate the new O-ring with oil filter and install the new filter.
6. Clean the transmission pan from dirt and old sealant. Remove the old pan washer and replace it with a new one. Apply a thin layer of sealant to the new pan gasket.
7. Reinstall the transmission pan and tighten the bolts. Observe the proper tightening torque specified in the instruction manual.
8. Pour new oil into the gearbox through the dipstick hole. Use a funnel to avoid spilling oil.
9. Check the oil level. Start the engine and let it idle. Shift through all gears and return to park mode. Remove the dipstick, wipe it with a clean cloth, reinsert it into the hole and remove it. The oil level should be between the “Min” and “Max” marks on the dipstick.
10. Reset the automatic transmission oil aging counter. This can be done using an OBD2 scanner or by contacting your Kia dealer.
