Materials:

* External automatic transmission filter
* Gaskets and O-rings (for new filter)
* ATF (transmission fluid)
* Automatic transmission oil filter
* Automatic transmission oil pan gasket
* Funnel
* Wrenches or ratchet with socket/wrench set
* Oil filter puller
* Gloves
* Funnel for filling ATF

Instructions:

1. Preparation:

* Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Allow the engine and transmission to cool.

2. Removing the old automatic transmission oil filter and gasket:

* Locate the automatic transmission oil pan.
* Remove the bolts or nuts securing the pan.
* Carefully remove the pan, being careful not to spill any ATF.
* Remove the old automatic transmission oil filter.
* Clean the surface of the pan and the adjacent surface of the gearbox from the old seal.

3. Installing a new automatic transmission oil filter:

* Lubricate the new oil filter O-ring with fresh ATF.
* Screw the new oil filter into the automatic transmission housing. Hand tighten it and then tighten it 1/2 turn with a wrench.

4. Installing the oil pan gasket:

* Install a new oil pan gasket onto the pan.
* Make sure the gasket is positioned correctly and is not jammed.

5. Installing the oil pan:

* Carefully reinstall the oil pan.
* Install the pan mounting bolts or nuts and tighten them evenly. Observe the specified tightening torque (indicated in the vehicle service manual).

6. Installing an external automatic transmission filter:

* Find a suitable location to install the external filter.
* Install the filter bracket to the desired position.
* Connect the inlet and outlet hoses to the corresponding ports on the external filter. Tighten the hose with clamps or bolts.
* Check all connections for leaks.

7. ATF replacement:

* Open the filler plug on the automatic transmission oil pan.
* Unscrew the drain plug and drain the old ATF into a suitable container.
* Close the drain plug and install the drain plug into the pan.
*Pour the recommended amount of new ATF through the filler plug using a funnel.

8. Reset transmission service counter (if applicable):

*Find procedures for resetting the transmission service counter in your vehicle’s service manual.
*Follow the instructions to reset the counter.

9. Additional check:

* Start the engine and let it idle.
* Switch the automatic transmission selector to different positions and back.
* Check ATF level and add if necessary.

10. Check for leaks:

* Check the connections of all hoses, filter and pan for leaks.
* If leaks are found, tighten connections or replace seals as necessary.

Note: The tightening torques specified by the manufacturer depend on the vehicle model. Be sure to consult your vehicle’s service manual for specific information.
