Determine if your transmission has an economy mode
Not all automatic transmissions have an economy mode. Check your vehicle’s owner’s manual or reference information on the manufacturer’s website.
Types of economy modes
* Shift Pattern: The transmission shifts up gears earlier and more often to reduce engine speed and fuel consumption on the highway.
* Creep mode: when you release the gas pedal, the car continues to move at low speed (usually about 10 km/h), without using the engine.
* Cylinder deactivation mode: Some engines deactivate some cylinders at low loads to reduce fuel consumption.
How to enable economy mode
If your transmission has an economy mode, it is usually activated via a button or switch.
*Economy Mode Button: There may be a button on the center console or shift lever labeled “Eco”, “Econ” or “Fuel Eco”. Press the button to turn on economy mode.
* Drive mode switch: Some modern cars have a drive mode switch that can turn on an economy mode. It is usually located on the center console or steering wheel and has various settings such as “Eco”, “Normal” and “Sport”. Select “Eco” mode to enable energy-saving mode.
Note:
* Eco mode may not always be optimal. For example, when towing a trailer or going uphill, you may need more engine power.
* Eco mode is not a substitute for good driving habits such as accelerating calmly, following a safe distance, and maintaining your vehicle regularly.
