Location and removal of the automatic transmission solenoid valve on Kia Rio 3

Location: The automatic transmission solenoid valve (ETC) is located on the side of the automatic transmission housing.

Dismantling:

1. Remove the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Locate the ETC. It is usually rectangular in shape with an electrical connector and two hose connections.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector. Press the connector latch and pull it up.
4. Disconnect the hose connections. Using pliers, squeeze the hose clamps and remove the hoses from the ETC.
5. Remove the ETC mounting bolts. Usually these are two 10 mm bolts.
6. Remove the ETC from the automatic transmission housing. Gently pull the ETC up and remove it.

Installing a new ETC:

1. Install the new ETC in place. Align the ETC with the automatic transmission housing and install the mounting bolts.
2. Tighten the mounting bolts. Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to 10 Nm.
3. Connect the hose connections. Place the hoses onto the ETC and tighten the clamps.
4. Connect the electrical connector. Insert the connector into the ETC and snap it into place.
5. Connect the negative terminal of the battery.

Note:

* During removal of the ETC, a small amount of transmission fluid may leak. If necessary, wipe up any spilled liquid with a clean cloth.
* Make sure all electrical connectors and hose connections are secure before operating the vehicle.
* It is recommended to change the ETC according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
