Self-diagnosis of Mitsubishi Chariot automatic transmission
Required tools:
* Voltmeter or multimeter
* Paperclip or jumper
Procedure:
1. Preparation:
* Place the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
* Turn off the engine.
* Connect a voltmeter to the battery terminals, placing the black wire on the negative terminal and the red wire on the positive terminal.
2. Enabling self-diagnosis mode:
* Locate the 16-pin diagnostic connector under the hood.
* Position the diagnostic connector as shown in the diagram below:
| Left row | Right row |
|—|—|
| 1 | 8 |
| 2 | 9 |
| 3 | 10 |
| 4 | 11 |
| 5 | 12 |
| 6 | 13 |
| 7 | 14 |
* Take a paperclip or jumper wire and insert one end into the 1st pin (GND) and the other end into the 4th pin (DLC1).
3. Reading fault codes:
* Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
* The voltmeter will begin to pulse, indicating fault codes.
* Fault codes will be displayed as a series of pulses:
*Short pulse: 0.4 seconds
* Long pulse: 1.2 seconds
* Pause between pulses: 0.8 seconds
* The first two pulses indicate the number of flashing digits of the fault code (for example, two short pulses are a two-digit fault code).
* Subsequent pulses indicate the digits of the fault code themselves.
* Fault codes will repeat until the staple or jumper is removed.
4. Decoding fault codes:
Mitsubishi Chariot automatic transmission fault codes are listed in the table below:
| Fault code | Description |
|—|—|
| 10 | Input shaft speed sensor malfunction |
| 11 | Output shaft speed sensor malfunction |
| 12 | Throttle position sensor malfunction |
| 13 | Gear selector position sensor malfunction |
| 14 | Line Pressure Solenoid Malfunction |
| 15 | Torque converter clutch lock-up solenoid malfunction |
| 16 | Shift Solenoid Malfunction |
| 17 | Hydraulic control unit malfunction |
| 18 | Electrical wiring fault |
| 21 | Fluid pressure sensor malfunction |
| 22 | Liquid temperature sensor malfunction |
| 50 | Torque converter clutch lock-up relay malfunction |
5. Resetting fault codes:
* Remove the paperclip or jumper from the diagnostic connector.
* Disconnect the negative battery terminal for a few minutes and then reconnect it.
Note:
*If certain trouble codes recur, this may indicate a more serious problem that will require service from a professional.
