The automatic transmission control unit in the Volkswagen Golf 4 is located under the plastic panel behind the glove compartment.
Instructions for accessing the automatic transmission control unit:
1. Open the glove compartment.
2. Press on the sides of the glove box to release it.
3. Pull out the glove compartment completely.
4. Locate the plastic panel behind the glove compartment.
5. Unscrew the screws securing the panel.
6. Gently pull the panel down and towards you to release it.
7. The automatic transmission control unit will be located under the panel on the left side.
