Photos and instructions for adjusting the automatic transmission

Materials:

* Set of tools for automatic transmission adjustment
* Repair manual for your specific car model
* New automatic transmission filter and pan gasket
* Transmission fluid

Warnings:

* Adjust the automatic transmission with a warm engine.
* Make sure the vehicle is parked on a level surface.
*Only use transmission fluid recommended for your vehicle model.

Instructions:

1. Drain the transmission fluid

* Remove the automatic transmission oil pan.
* Drain the transmission fluid into a container.

2. Replace the automatic transmission filter and pan gasket

* Remove the old automatic transmission filter.
* Install a new filter.
* Install a new pan gasket.
* Tighten the pan bolts.

3. Fill with transmission fluid

* Pour transmission fluid into the automatic transmission through the filler neck.
* Check the fluid level using the dipstick.
* Add enough fluid to bring the level to the “Hot” mark on the dipstick.

4. Perform throttle adjustment

5. Adjust the gear selector cable

* This usually involves adjusting the cable length to ensure smooth gear shifts.

6. Check the transmission fluid level

* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
* Shift through all gears and return to Park.
* Check the fluid level on the dipstick.
*Add fluid as needed to maintain level between “Hot” and “Cold” marks on dipstick.

7. Test the operation of the automatic transmission

* Take a test drive and test the operation of the automatic transmission.
* Make sure that gear changes are smooth and without slipping.

*If adjustments do not correct the automatic transmission problem, additional diagnostic tests may need to be performed.
