HOLD function in automatic transmission

The HOLD function prevents the automatic transmission from accidentally upshifting when driving on a slope or when towing.

Working principle:

When the HOLD function is active, the transmission remains in the current gear even when the accelerator pedal is released. This allows the car to effectively apply engine braking and control speed on steep descents.

Activation and deactivation:

Activation and deactivation of the HOLD function is usually carried out by a button on the instrument panel or on the gearshift lever. On some vehicles, it may be activated automatically when you engage reverse gear or when driving on a steep slope.

Advantages:

* Prevents unwanted upshifts on steep descents, providing more effective engine braking.
* Improves towing safety as fewer gear changes reduce stress on the transmission.
* Improves vehicle control on slippery or winding roads by allowing you to manually select the optimal gear.

Flaws:

* May reduce fuel economy when driving on level terrain as the engine operates at lower speeds.
* May be inconvenient in urban environments as frequent gear changes may be necessary.

Adviсe:

* Use the HOLD function when driving on steep slopes or when towing.
* Deactivate the HOLD function when driving on level ground or when shifting to a higher gear.
*Check the HOLD function regularly, especially before traveling long distances or using a towing device.
