Partial automatic transmission oil change in Mazda CX-5

A partial automatic transmission oil change involves draining some of the old oil and adding fresh oil without removing the pan or changing the filter. This is a less extensive procedure than a complete oil change.

Required materials:

* 3-4 liters of Mazda ATF-FZ transmission fluid
* Drain plug key
* Funnel
* Rags

Procedure:

1. Preparation

* Make sure the engine and transmission are warm.
* Raise the car on jacks or a lift.
* Install a pan under the automatic transmission drain plug.

2. Drain the old oil

* Locate the drain plug on the automatic transmission housing.
* Carefully unscrew the plug so that the oil begins to drain.
* Wait until about 3-4 liters of oil (about half of the total volume) has flowed out.

3. Filling with new oil

* Replace the drain plug.
* Locate the automatic transmission filler plug (usually located at the top of the transmission).
* Using a funnel, add fresh gear oil.
* Add approximately the same amount of oil that was drained (3-4 liters).

4. Level check

* Start the engine and let it idle.
* Shift the automatic transmission selector through all gears, holding each gear for a few seconds.
* Move the lever to the park position (P).
* Check the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick (if equipped). The level should be between the “HOT” and “COLD” marks.
*If the level is low, add more oil. If the level is high, drain a little.

5. Resetting the automatic transmission oil aging counter

* Some Mazda CX-5 models have an automatic transmission oil aging counter that must be reset after an oil change. To do this, connect the OBD-II diagnostic scanner and follow the on-screen instructions.

6. Completion

* Remove the car from the jacks.
* Dispose of old oil properly.

Note:

* Partial automatic transmission oil changes are usually recommended every 30,000-60,000 km, depending on operating conditions.
* To completely change the automatic transmission oil, you will need to remove the pan and replace the filter. This is a more complex procedure that is best left to a qualified mechanic.
*Always use genuine Mazda ATF-FZ transmission fluid for optimal automatic transmission performance.
