Steps to remove an automatic transmission (AT) on a Mercedes 124:

Tools and materials:

* Wrench set
* Phillips screwdriver
* Flat head screwdriver
* Automatic transmission oil dispenser
* New oil pan gasket
* New automatic transmission filters
* Container for collecting oil from automatic transmission

* Make sure the car is parked on a level surface and the handbrake is on.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Drain the oil from the automatic transmission.

* Locate the throttle cable that runs from the gas pedal to the throttle body.
* Disconnect the cable from the throttle control lever on the automatic transmission.

7. Disconnect the gear selector:

* Locate the gear selector from the gear lever to the automatic transmission.
* Disconnect the gear selector by pressing the retaining spring.

8. Disconnect the drives:

* Loosen and remove the bolts holding the drive shafts to the differential flanges.
* Using a pry bar or other suitable tool, carefully remove the drive shafts.

9. Unscrew the automatic transmission mounting bolts:

* Locate the bolts holding the automatic transmission to the engine and differential flange.
* Loosen and unscrew these bolts.

10. Lift and remove the automatic transmission:

* Use a transmission support or jack to lift the automatic transmission.
* Carefully remove the automatic transmission from the engine and differential flange.

11. Installation of a new automatic transmission:

* Clean the surfaces that will connect the new automatic transmission to the engine and differential flange.
* Apply a new gasket to the oil pan.
* Install a new automatic transmission and tighten the mounting bolts.
* Reconnect all previously disconnected components in reverse order.
* Pour new fluid into the automatic transmission and check its level.
* Make sure all electrical connectors are connected.
* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
