Steps to take if there is an oil leak from the automatic transmission:
1. Stop in a safe place. If you notice an oil leak while driving, stop as soon as possible and park on the side of the road in a safe place.
2. Check the oil level. Use the dipstick to check the oil level in the automatic transmission. If the oil level is low, add sufficient ATF (transmission fluid) recommended for your specific transmission.
3. Inspect the automatic transmission pan. An oil leak may occur from the automatic transmission pan gasket, which can be inspected from underneath the car using a flashlight.
4. Check the automatic transmission shaft seals. Oil leaks can also be caused by worn or damaged shaft seals, which seal the shafts that connect the automatic transmission to the engine and transmission.
5. Check the oil cooler. If your vehicle has an external oil cooler to cool the automatic transmission fluid, check it for leaks or damage.
6. Inspect the automatic transmission cooling lines. These lines connect the automatic transmission to the radiator and can also be sources of oil leakage.
7. Contact a mechanic. If you cannot determine the source of the oil leak or cannot repair the leak yourself, have it diagnosed and repaired by a qualified mechanic.
Important: Do not drive with an automatic transmission oil leak, as this can cause serious damage to the transmission and costly repairs.
