Steps to take if oil has leaked from your automatic transmission:

1. Stop in a safe place.
*If possible, pull off the road to the side of the road or into a parking lot.
* Park the car.

2. Turn off the engine.

3. Check the oil level in the gearbox.
*Locate the transmission oil dipstick (usually red or yellow).
* Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean and reinsert it.
* Remove the dipstick and check the oil level.
* If the oil level is low or missing, the transmission may have suffered serious damage.

4. Call a tow truck.
*Do not attempt to start or drive the vehicle without oil in the transmission.
* Call a tow truck to take the car to a repair shop.

5. Tell the mechanic what happened.
* When taking your vehicle to the repair shop, give the mechanic a detailed description of what happened.
* Indicate when you noticed the oil leaking and what action you took.

Possible reasons for oil displacement from an automatic transmission:

* Leaks in gaskets, seals or hoses
* Worn or damaged transmission components
*Excessive heat
*Low oil level
*Wrong oil type
* Clogged oil filter

A mechanic will inspect the transmission to determine the cause of the oil leak and perform any necessary repairs.
