Automatic transmission oil pump gear

The oil pump gear is a component of an automatic transmission (AT) that is responsible for pumping hydraulic fluid to keep the various components of the transmission operating.

Function:

* Pumps hydraulic fluid (transmission oil) under high pressure.
* Provides fluid supply to clutches, brakes, clutches and other hydraulic components.
* Lubricates the moving parts of the pump and transmission.

Design:

*A typical oil pump gear is a rotating wheel with one or more teeth.
* The teeth of the gear mesh with the teeth of another wheel (the drive gear), creating fluid pressure.
* Often made from hardened steel or ductile iron for strength and durability.

Location:

*Located in the automatic transmission oil pump housing.
* Driven by the engine crankshaft or transmission output shaft through the drive gear.

Types:

* Inner Gear: Rotates inside the outer ring and creates fluid pressure as the teeth approach each other.
*Outer Gear: The larger wheel that rotates on the outside of the inner ring and meshes with it.
* Chevron Gear: Features V-shaped teeth for smoother engagement and reduced noise.
*Dual Feed Gear: Has two rows of teeth, which increases the volume of fluid pumped.

Malfunctions:

* Tooth wear
* Damaged or chipped teeth
* Improper engagement with drive gear
* Fluid leaks from seals
