Steps to drain the oil from a Kia Sportage automatic transmission

Tools and materials:

* Wrench or ratchet
* Flat container for draining
* New automatic transmission oil (check the specifications in the owner’s manual)
* New oil filter and automatic transmission pan gasket (optional)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the car:

* Place the car on a flat surface.
* Put the car in parking mode.
* Stop the engine and let it cool for a few minutes.

2. Identify the drain plug:

* The drain plug is usually located at the bottom of the automatic transmission pan.
* It can be located at the front, rear or side of the tray.

3. Place a container for draining:

* Place a flat container with a capacity of at least 3 liters under the drain plug.
* Make sure the container is large enough to contain all the oil that leaks from the gearbox.

4. Unscrew the drain plug:

* Using a wrench or ratchet, carefully remove the drain plug.
* Be prepared for oil to escape under pressure.

5. Drain the oil:

* Allow the oil to drain completely. This may take a few minutes.
* When all the oil has drained, tighten the drain plug.

6. Replace the oil filter (optional):

*If you are replacing the oil filter, remove the bolts holding it in place.
*Remove the old filter and install a new one.
* Tighten the bolts to the recommended torque.

7. Replace the pan gasket (optional):

*If you are replacing the pan gasket, remove the bolts holding the pan in place.
* Carefully lower the automatic transmission pan so as not to damage the gasket.
* Clean the surfaces of the pan and gearbox of the old gasket.
* Install a new gasket and tighten the bolts to the recommended torque.

8. Fill with new oil:

* Using a funnel, pour new automatic transmission oil through the dipstick.
* Fill the oil in portions, checking the level with a dipstick.

9. Check the oil level:

* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
* Shift the gear selector to each position and return to the park position.
* Check the oil level using the dipstick. The level should be between the ‘MIN’ and ‘MAX’ marks.

10. Reset the oil change counter (optional):

* Some Kia Sportage models have an automatic transmission oil change counter.
* Consult your owner’s manual for instructions on how to reset the counter.

Notes:

*Always use the automatic transmission oil recommended for your vehicle.
* Regular automatic transmission oil changes will extend the life of your gearbox.
* If you doubt your abilities or do not have the necessary tools, it is recommended that you contact a qualified mechanic.
