Steps to replace the automatic transmission pan gasket:

Materials:

* New automatic transmission pan gasket
* Transmission fluid (ATF)
* Automatic transmission oil filter (optional)
* Tool set

Tools:

* Drain plug key
* Jack
* Stops
* Flat head screwdriver
* Brush with metal bristles
* Funnel
* Rags or napkins

Security measures:

* Consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual before operating.
* Drain ATF only on a level surface, away from sources of ignition.
* Wear gloves and safety glasses.

Instructions:

1. Place the car on a level surface. Place the car in park and secure it with stops.

2. Start the engine and switch to mode D for a few seconds. This will help drain some of the ATF from the torque converter.

3. Disconnect the battery. This will prevent the vehicle from starting while you are working underneath it.

4. Find the drain plug on the automatic transmission pan. It is usually located at the bottom of the pan and has a thread.

5. Place a container under the drain plug. Use a bucket or basin large enough to hold the ATF being drained.

6. Unscrew the drain plug. Be careful as the ATF may be hot.

7. Allow the ATF to drain into the container. This may take some time, depending on the amount of ATF in the automatic transmission.

8. Unscrew the automatic transmission pan bolts. Use a wrench or socket wrench to remove the bolts holding the pan to the transmission.

9. Pull the pan slightly away from the automatic transmission. As the bolts loosen, ATF will begin to leak out.

10. Remove the pan from the automatic transmission. Be careful not to damage the gasket.

11. Remove the old gasket. Use a flathead screwdriver or scraper to remove the old gasket from the pan and transmission.

12. Clean surfaces. Use a wire brush to remove gasket residue and dirt from the pan and transmission surfaces.

13. Install a new gasket. Place the new gasket on the pan and align it with the bolt holes.

14. Install the pan on the automatic transmission. Carefully attach the pan to the automatic transmission and hand-tighten the bolts.

15. Tighten the pan bolts. Use a wrench or socket wrench to tighten the pan bolts in the order specified in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.

16. Install the drain plug. Tighten the drain plug using a wrench or socket wrench.

17. Fill with new ATF. Using a funnel, pour the required amount of ATF into the automatic transmission. Consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual for the correct volume.

18. Check ATF level. Start the engine and check the ATF level using the automatic transmission dipstick. Add ATF if necessary.

19. Reset the error code. If the vehicle is equipped with an electronic transmission control system, clear the error code using an OBD-II scanner.

20. Connect the battery.

Additional tips:

* If you are changing the automatic transmission oil filter, do this before installing the pan.
*If the ATF is very dirty or dark, consider an automatic transmission flush.
* Do not overtighten the pan bolts as this may damage the gasket.
* After replacing the automatic transmission pan gasket, drive the car for a while and check for leaks.
