Purpose: to prevent transmission fluid leakage from the AL4 automatic transmission oil pump.

Location: Between the oil pump housing and the transmission housing.

Design:

* Circular rubber part with metallized reinforcing ring.
* Has inner and outer diameters that correspond to the diameters of the oil pump shaft and gearbox housing.
* The outer lip of the seal is usually slightly chamfered or beveled to provide a better seal.

Function:

* Creates a tight seal to prevent transmission fluid from leaking out of the oil pump.
* Keeps oil under pressure inside the automatic transmission system.

Malfunctions:

* Wear or Damage: Over time, the seal rubber can become worn or damaged, causing leakage.
* Incorrect installation: Improper installation of the seal may result in leakage or rapid failure of the seal.
*High Pressure: If the transmission fluid pressure exceeds normal levels, it may cause the seal to be pushed out or ruptured.

Signs of malfunction:

* Leakage of transmission fluid from under the automatic transmission.
* Reduced transmission fluid level.
* Slipping or uneven gear shifting.

Replacement:

Replacing the oil pump seal of an AL4 automatic transmission requires special tools and skills. It is recommended that you have this work done by a qualified mechanic.
