Automatic transmission gearbox of Golf 3

The Golf 3 automatic transmission consists of the following main components:

* Torque Converter: Provides smooth gear shifting and transfer of torque from the engine to the gearbox.
* Planetary Gearbox: Used to change the gear ratio between the input and output shafts.
*Clutch Drum: Used to engage and disengage various planetary gears.
* Control Valve: Redirects hydraulic pressure to control gear shifting, torque converter lock-up and other functions.
* Gears: Used to change the gear ratio in a planetary gearbox.
*Shafts: Allow rotation and transfer of power between the various components of the transmission.
*Transmission Housing: Contains all components and holds them together.

Working principle:

1. Torque Converter Lockup: When the engine is under light load, the torque converter locks up, creating a direct connection between the input and output shafts, improving efficiency.
2. Shifting: The control valve directs hydraulic pressure to the corresponding clutch drums, which activate the planetary gears to change the gear ratio.
3. Torque Transmission: Torque is transmitted from the engine through the torque converter to the planetary gearbox, where the gear ratio is changed, and then to the output shaft and wheels.

Golf 3 automatic transmission types:

* 01N: 4-speed electronically controlled transmission.
* 096: 4-speed manual transmission.
* 097: 5-speed electronically controlled transmission.

Advantages of the Golf 3 automatic transmission:

*Smooth gear shifting
* Increased driving comfort
* Easy to control for inexperienced drivers
* Less load on the driver in city traffic conditions
