Requirements:

* BMW diagnostic scanner
*Laptop or tablet

Automatic transmission adaptation procedure:

1. Connect the diagnostic scanner:

* Connect the scanner to the vehicle’s diagnostic port.
* Launch the scanner software and select the E53 model.

2. Read fault codes:

* Go to ‘Diagnostics’ or ‘Fault Codes’ section.
*Read all stored trouble codes. Write them down for use at a later stage.

3. Adjusting the liquid level:

* Check the gearbox fluid level and top up if necessary.
* Use only automatic transmission fluid recommended by the manufacturer.
* Reinstall the oil pan.

4. Removing adaptation values:

* Return to the diagnostic scanner and go to the ‘Automatic Transmission Adaptation’ section.
* Select the ‘Delete adaptation values’ option.
* Confirm the action.

5. Automatic transmission adaptation:

* Start the engine and let it idle for 2-3 minutes.
* Move the gear selector through all positions (P, R, N, D, 3, 2, 1). Hold each position for about 10 seconds.
* Drive the car at various speeds and loads for 20-30 kilometers.

6. Resetting fault codes:

*Once the adaptation is complete, go to the diagnostic scan tool and reset the trouble codes.
* Delete all previously saved codes.

7. Check:

* Check if the problem with the automatic transmission has been resolved.
*If the problem is not resolved, additional diagnostics or repairs may be required.

Note:

* The adaptation process may take from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the state of the system.
* Don’t interrupt the adaptation process.
*If for any reason the process is interrupted, repeat it from the beginning.
