Materials:

* 10mm socket wrench

Steps:

1. Start the engine: Start the engine and let it run for about 10 minutes to warm up the automatic transmission oil.

2. Shift all gears: With the engine running and standing still, shift into all gears (P, R, N, D, 1, 2, 3). Hold each gear for a few seconds before shifting to the next.

3. Set the vehicle to Park (P) mode: Once you have changed all gears, set the vehicle to Park (P) mode.

4. Pull out the oil level dipstick: Open the hood and find the automatic transmission oil level dipstick. It is usually marked with an orange tip or knob that says «ATF».

5. Wipe the dipstick: Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean, lint-free cloth.

6. Reinsert the dipstick: Insert the dipstick all the way back into the transmission and then pull it out again.

7. Check the oil level: The oil level should be between the upper and lower marks on the dipstick. There are usually two marks on the dipstick: “COOL” (cold) and “HOT” (hot). When checking warm oil, the level should be at the “HOT” mark.

8. Add oil if necessary: If the oil level is below the COLD mark, add the manufacturer’s recommended type of oil to the transmission. Add oil little by little and check the level until it reaches the desired level.

9. Reinstall the dipstick: Insert the dipstick back into the transmission, tightening it with a 10mm wrench.

Additional tips:

* Check the automatic transmission oil level regularly, especially before long trips or when towing.
* Use only oil recommended by your vehicle manufacturer.
* If the automatic transmission oil level is low or too high, contact a qualified mechanic.
* Automatic transmission fluid should never be black or smell burnt. If so, it may indicate a more serious problem that requires repair.
