Materials:
* OBD-II scanner
* Screwdriver
* Throttle body cleaner
Procedure:
1. Make sure the engine is fully warmed up.
Start the engine and run it for a few minutes until the coolant temperature reaches normal operating temperature.
2. Read and erase fault codes.
Connect the OBD-II scanner to the vehicle’s diagnostic connector. Read and clear any throttle related trouble codes.
3. Clean the throttle valve.
Remove the air filter and air filter housing. Use throttle body cleaner to spray onto the throttle body, removing any deposits. Wipe the throttle body with a clean cloth.
4. Reset throttle adaptation.
There are two ways to reset throttle adaptation:
* Electrical method: Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for 10 minutes. Then reconnect it and start the engine. Let the engine idle for a few minutes.
* Mechanical method: With the engine running, disconnect the throttle position sensor (TPS) connector. Wait 30 seconds, then reconnect the connector. Let the engine idle for a few minutes.
5. Throttle valve calibration.
Start the engine and let it idle for 30 seconds. Then, slowly and smoothly press the accelerator pedal until the engine speed reaches 2000 rpm. Maintain this speed for 5 seconds, then release the accelerator pedal. Repeat this process two more times.
6. Clean the throttle body (if possible).
If the throttle body is disconnected from the intake manifold, remove it and clean the inside of the throttle body. Wipe all surfaces with a clean cloth.
7. Reinstall the throttle body and air filter.
After cleaning, install the throttle body back onto the intake manifold and install the air filter.
8. Read fault codes for problems.
Connect the OBD-II scanner and read the trouble codes. If there are any throttle related codes, refer to the troubleshooting section of your vehicle’s repair manual.
Note: Throttle adjustment times and procedures may vary depending on vehicle make and model. Be sure to consult your vehicle’s repair manual for exact instructions.
